When your dog dies, how do you pay your vet?

A man named Chris says his pet dog has died, but Chris and his wife have no idea what to do.

They just don’t know where to turn.

“We’ve been in this situation, and we’ve been asking ourselves, ‘What can we do to try and save his life?’

And it just kind of makes no sense,” Chris said.

“I’ve been trying to figure out what we can do, what our next steps are.

So we just kind, I think, decided that it’s time for us to have a conversation.”

So they’re starting to look for ways to pay for the care of their dog, as well as other animals that are ill or in need of surgery.

“What I’ve noticed is, the more people who are concerned about the issue, the less people are willing to pay,” Chris explained.

Chris says his wife has a few options, but one of the first they decided on was a $10,000 donation to the Humane Society of the United States.

“The Humane Society is really, really supportive, and they’re actually going to donate some money to help us out,” he said.

Chris and his family say they’ll donate whatever the money is to the humane society and help pay for vet bills.

Chris is also thinking about getting a copy of the Humane Code of Ethics, which includes animal welfare and health protections.

“I’m looking at it as, how can I help other people and make this change?

I mean, if you could just, if the Humane Societies are not helping people, it’s kind of just not going to happen,” he explained.

That’s what Chris and other animal advocates are hoping will happen with this new wave of dog owners.

“It’s kind the same reason why people are getting out of cars and going to the curb to do things.

People are taking responsibility for their animals and putting the money where their mouth is, to help them out, and it’s a very human thing to do,” said Chris.”

So that’s why we’re trying to raise awareness, to get people to be more aware of this issue, because we know that the more animals that get ill or are injured, the harder it is for them to recover,” he added.
